Why We Love This

**This photo tour has a prerequisite. Participants should have either taken F-Stops + Shutter Speeds 101 or have a basic knowledge of their camera's settings. You should currently be shooting in aperture priority or shutter priority (utilizing exposure compensation when necessary) or manual mode. Expand your mind and embrace the dramatic lighting without flash or a tripod. Low Light Photography at the Portland Art Museum is perfect for beginner to advanced hobbyists. This photo tour is a fun and educational experience, as well as the perfect way to take in Portland.

What You'll Do

This photo tour begins with a lesson on camera settings for low light when a tripod and flash are not an option. We discuss optimal aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings for low light. If you are not already shooting in manual mode, I'll move you into manual and show you how to make the transition from aperture or shutter priority mode easy. Ever notice that awful yellow color cast in your indoor images? We'll address how to correct for that by color balancing. We also review how to color balance in complex lighting situations with multiple light sources. Low Light Photography covers exposing for the highlights in your scene in order to capture dramatic light. I will also cover center point focusing, metering and understanding lighting quality and direction. We discuss how to hold your camera in order to take longer exposures without camera shake. Composition, perspective and getting low and close are also covered. At the end of the photo tour, you will be sent an invite into Portland Photo Tour Forum. This is a group open only to those who have participated in a Portland Photo Tour and are interested in learning, inspiring and having fun with photography. Tag me on the images you post in the forum and I will give you feedback!
